I think you did play it wrong - although your line isn't terrible, by any means. The reason why I think you erred here is not because you need to protect your hand - as there are only one or two hand combinations that have any outs at all against you - but because you have a monster, your opponents most likely holding is an ace, and you need to build a big pot. The only way to win a monster pot is to start building it early. Pot, pot, pot. But when he has KQ and the river comes a 10, or if he has 55 and the river comes a 5, your play looks brilliant, so who knows.
